While travelling through Glenwood, we met George on the side of the road. He needed to get to the local shop, so we gave him a lift. George told us his son had recently moved to Glenwood to be closer to him.

It was a simple trip, but it was also a reminder that in a spread-out regional community, getting to the shop can be an important part of staying independent and connected. Transport, shopping and everyday errands are often small things that make a very practical difference.

On the way back, we stopped at the Glenwood memorial and community centre. There we met Kylie, Don, Doug and Deb, long-time locals who told us they have helped look after the memorial grounds and community centre for more than 30 years.

We had a great conversation about Glenwood, the people who use the grounds and the work that goes into caring for shared community spaces. Doug was also interested in talking further about local property-maintenance work with Acclyptic. We exchanged contact details and plan to continue that conversation.

After dropping George home, we met Dell and her husband while they were clearing and burning vegetation along the drains as part of preparing their property for the storms that can affect the area through the warmer months.

We stopped to talk and hear about how they prepare for the season. It was another glimpse of the practical, hands-on way people in Glenwood look after their homes, properties and one another.
